Oil Taxes

Our legislature has some tough decisions to make.  This is the first year since the ’70’s that there has been NO new oil exploration in Alaska.  Sure, the companies are still making money — but like anyone else, they are making their financial decisions on the margin — the difference between how much they will [...]

Whack-a-mole

Sarah Palin has been a top target of the Democrats since she ran as Senator John McCain’s vice presidential candidate.  They lost the election, and she has since resigned as governor of Alaska due to the continued onslaught of complaints by Democrat operatives.  So NOW why are the Democrats so steamed?

Cold Weather

As the U.S. midwest and east coast experience record cold temperatures and winter weather, we can’t help but make fun of some of the “global warming” issues that have affected our economy and our way of life in Alaska.
Even though sea ice has increased for the past two years, polar bear populations have increased, and [...]

Which Way?

Senator Begich is just along for the ride with the Democrat majority in Congress.  At this point, he has no choice.  Still, we’re miffed that he is ignoring the opinion of Alaskans.

Begich’s Anchorage Legacy

It seems Mayor Mark Begich was less than honest with the Anchorage Assembly when recommending approval of union contracts, “forgetting” that he had been advised they could not afford the deals as they stood. Could the fact that he was running for U.S. Senate and needed the votes explain his lapse of memory?

Our economy: The next big hit

Some folks are saying the economic freefall appears to be at an end.  But there’s new legislation on the horizon that will send us over the edge.

Energy independence, past and present

We wouldn’t want to go back to the “good old days,” but sometimes we need a reality check as many folks strive for “energy efficiency” in today’s world.  Click on the image to see the comparison.

Justice in the Ted Stevens prosecution

The Department of Justice team in the Ted Stevens prosecution has given justice a black eye.  We hope Attorney General Eric Holder and Judge Emmet Sullivan have taken the first steps to keep our courts from regularly becoming a political tool during election campaigns.

Hit and Run Prosecutors

When U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the Department of Justice would be requesting dismissal of charges against Senator Ted Stevens, many Alaskans felt two emotions.  First, we were glad “Uncle Ted” was off the hook.  Then we got mad, because he was the person we wanted in the Senate.  We felt cheated by the [...]
