Alaska in Spring

gas pricesThe best seasons in Alaska’s northern interior are spring and fall–not too cold, not too hot, few tourists, and no mosquitos. So we’re on a short road trip to visit some of our favorite friends and take care of some business along the way.

As usual, we made Haines to Fairbanks an overnight trip.  Though we have done it in one 14-hour day, we prefer a more leisurely pace and arrival at a reasonable time of day.

We stopped in Tok for dinner at Fast Eddy’s restaurant. This is an above-average restaurant for rural Alaska, friendly, with good service and good food.  Tok is a major crossroad, and it’s not unusual to run into familiar Alaska faces here.  Sure enough–we spent a couple of hours visiting over coffee with an old friend who is working in the area.

Warmer weather has finally arrived in the interior so the drive was easy and the spring weather is pleasant.  While we’re traveling, the cartoons will keep on coming…the sketchbook is always handy.
